[post_content] => With the Dashboard page, you can view and interact with your customized dashboard(s) created in the Classic Portal without leaving the New Portal.
To configure or edit a dashboard, you must return to the Classic Portal by clicking on the Edit icon (
) at the top right-hand corner of the browser window.
Viewing a Dashboard
If you have access to or have created multiple dashboards, you can view each dashboard by using the drop-down selector. Otherwise, if you only have access to or have only created one dashboard in the Classic Portal, the Dashboard page displays your one available dashboard.
How to select a dashboard to view:
- Click on the Drop-Down icon.
- Use the scroll bar to scroll until you see the Dashboard you would like to view.
- Click on the name of the Dashboard you would like to view.
The selected Dashboard loads on the screen.
Interacting with the Dashboard
You can interact with the dashlets on your dashboard from the New Portal just like you would from the Classic Portal.
Interacting with some dashlets may open a new browser tab opened to the applicable section of the Classic Portal so that you may drill down to the data you need.
The way you interact with a dashlet varies from dashlet to dashlet. We are providing you with an example of interacting with the Map dashlet below.
How to interact with the Map dashlet:
- Just like in the Classic Portal, you can click on a vehicle on the map dashlet to view vehicle details, change the map to Satellite or Map (with or without Terrain), view traffic, use the peg-man to see street view, drop a pin, and more.

[post_content] => The dashboard interface allows you to arrange, customize, and share several configurations of workspaces. Moveable windows called dashlets provide at-a-glance insight into the fleet management areas that interest you most and allow you to interact with vehicle data.
Not all dashlets may be available to your account.
Review these four areas of the dashboard interface for key terminology:
[et th="0" colwidth="25%|" class="table-condensed"]
"1 - Menu Bar","Access maps, reports, other account features, menu options, user preferences, tab settings, and Help."
"2 - Dashboard Control","Modify and save dashboard layouts."
"3 - Dashlets Control","Drag-and-drop dashlets onto the dashboard layout."
"4 - Dashboard","View and interact with individual dashlets."
[/et]
When you first log into the portal, the default dashboard appears ([System] 2 wide L). You can toggle to different dashboards using the Dashboard Control (circled below). For example, the dashboard in the following figure uses a three column layout (equal widths) and six dashlets: Alerts, Vehicle Selector, Map, Quick Links, and Closest. (See Dashlets for more examples.)
Want more room on the dashboard? Minimize the control panels by clicking the arrow icon (
).
The [System] Map Dashboard is a special type of dashboard that does not allow you to configure the layout.
You can rearrange individual dashlets by simply dragging-and-dropping them on the screen.
You can also minimize, configure, add, or remove dashlets using the Move
, Show/Hide
, Edit
, Add
, Copy
or Close
icons.
Drag a vehicle from a dashlet onto an area of the dashboard to automatically add a map dashlet that follows the selected vehicle.
Result:

[post_content] => Set a default dashboard and create custom dashboards to personalize your workspace.
Setting a Default Dashboard
The default dashboard refers to the dashboard that appears whenever you log into the portal. Typically you'll want your default dashboard to be the one you use most often. The available dashboards to set as your default can be system dashboards (denoted by "[System]") or custom dashboards.
Example
Tom prefers to see a two-column dashboard layout over a three-column layout on the dashboard.
To set a default dashboard
- From the Dashboard Control, click the drop-down arrow, and choose the dashboard you want to view. In Tom's example, we chose "[System] 2 wide."

The selected dashboard appears.
- From the Dashboard Control, click Set as default.
A message appears to indicate that the selected layout is now your default dashboard. In Tom's example, the next time he logs into the portal, he will automatically see this two-column layout.
You can modify system dashboards, but changes are lost the next time you refresh the screen or log in unless you save them as a custom dashboard.
Saving a Custom Dashboard
Custom dashboards allow you to arrange different combinations of dashlets and save the layout for quick access. You can create as many custom dashboards as needed.
Example
Tom added several graph dashlets to his default dashboard and wants to save the layout for future use.
To save a custom dashboard
- From the dashboard layout, add and rearrange dashlets on the dashboard as needed.
You can rearrange dashlets, close dashlets, or add more dashlets to a dashboard by simply dragging-and-dropping them on the screen or clicking the Add (
) or Close (
) icons.
- From the Dashboard Control, click Save As.
- In the Save Dashboard As window, enter a Dashboard Name. (Leave the option selected to use the dashboard immediately. Optionally set this new dashboard to be your default.)
- Click Save.

Because we left the "Use newly created dashboard" check box selected, the new dashboard is automatically chosen as the current layout.

Click "Manage Dashboards" to delete or change the name of a custom dashboard.
Adding a Custom Tab
Custom tabs appear as new items on the Menu Bar. Custom tabs allow you to quickly jump to your most-used dashboards without having to choose them from the drop-down in the Dashboard Control.
Example
Tom created several custom dashboards. He uses his "Dispatching" dashboard frequently and wants a quicker way to access it.
To add a custom tab
- From the right side of the Menu Bar, click Change Tab Settings (pencil icon
).
- In the Tab Settings window, from the Custom Tab Settings area, click +Add Tab.
- Enter a new tab name, and then choose the dashboard you want to link to the tab. You can optionally click the "Custom" gears icon (
) to choose a different icon for the tab. In Tom's example, we chose "D" for Dispatch.

- Click Apply.
The new tab appears in the Menu Bar (click to view associated dashboard).
- Click Close to close the Tab Settings window.
Adjusting Tab Settings
Expand the Tab Settings icon
on the Dashboard to adjust static and custom tab settings.

"Help! Why can't I see my landmarks on the map?" Ensure the Landmarks toggle is turned on from the Map Toolbar:
or from the Landmark Card:
.
The boundary that you set up for a landmark can exist as a circle or a polygon.
- Circle - The default shape for a landmark boundary is a circle. The default radius is determined by your current zoom level. Circle landmarks are typically sufficient for most tasks (i.e., report labels, map filters, turn-by-turn directions, and so on).
- Polygon - Polygons allow you to define a more precise boundary by tracing an outline around a specific area (up to 256 vertices). Polygon landmarks are more often used when the exclusion or inclusion of specific perimeters is important, such as when sending alerts when a vehicle enters or exits a specific location.
Adding a Landmark
You can add a landmark by drawing a new one from the Landmarks tab or from a dropped pin on the map.
Draw a New Landmark
Drawing a landmark allows you to visually specify the borders on the map surface.

[post_content] => Dashlet groups allow you to link two or more dashlets (where applicable). When linked, clicking on a vehicle from one dashlet updates the data in another dashlet. In the following example, clicking a vehicle from the Vehicle Selector zooms in on the vehicle's location in the Map because both dashlets use Group A.
Configure Multiple Dashlet Groups
You can configure other dashlet groups (B-H). Different dashlet groups are most often used on dashboards that have copies of the same dashlet. Up to four copies of a dashlet may be used on one dashboard.
Example
Company XYZ uses trucks to transport large heating/cooling equipment and uses vans for conducting on-site repairs. The trucks are assigned to a "Delivery" group and the vans to a "Service" group. XYZ's owner wants a side-by-side dashboard to show vehicle status and location for both groups at the same time. (Learn more about creating vehicle groups.)
To use dashboard groups
- Create a new custom dashboard with two columns (see Dashboard Customization). In the Company XYZ example, we started with the "[System] 2 wide" layout and named our dashboard "XYZ Maps."
- On the custom dashboard, remove the default dashlets.
- From the Dashlet Control, set the New Dashlet Groups drop-down to B. Then choose the vehicle group to use. In the Company XYZ example, we chose "Delivery."

- Add the following dashlets to Column 1 on the dashboard layout: Vehicle Selector and Map.
The selected dashlets automatically appear on the layout, and both are assigned to Vehicle Group B.

- From the Dashlet Control, set the New Dashlet Groups drop-down to C. Then choose another vehicle group to use. In the Company XYZ example, we chose "Service."

- Add the following dashlets to Column 2 on the dashboard layout: Vehicle Selector and Map.
The selected dashlets automatically appear on the layout, and both are assigned to Vehicle Group C.

- Save the dashboard.
XYZ's owner can now pick a vehicle from each group and see the maps update accordingly:

Question:
When I click the Reports menu, I have a rather long list. When all report categories are expanded, I can't see the bottom of the list. How can I scroll within this list (as opposed to collapsing individual categories)?
Easy! We want your portal workspace to work for YOU. That's the best part about a customizable interface. The portal menu bar includes a menu fix toggle that allows you to scroll within the report list as well as keep the menu bar present as you scroll on the dashboard itself.
To turn on the fixed menu:
- From the Menu Bar, click the Toggle Fixed Menu option.

- Click the Reports menu.
A new vertical scroll bar now appears.

The menu will also remain fixed as you scroll down on the dashboard.

Question:
Every time I log into my portal account, why is my map dashlet always centered on the state of Kansas? My company is nowhere near Kansas.
The default location of the
map dashlet is the geographical center of the contiguous United States.

As soon as you have vehicles
installed and registered in your account, the map automatically centers around the vehicles/group to which you have
access and/or around a specific vehicle group specified in the
dahslet map's settings.
Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.
If you don't see any vehicles on the map (i.e., you only see Kansas), contact your company's GPS administrator to ensure
you have been given access to view them.
